Reader Profile

My reader profile would be of course a girl, age between 16-19 year old. She will be interested in music like RnB and Hip hop. Also she should be up to date with the latest music and interviews also fashion is the second big thing in my magazine and she had to be interested in both and up to date with both so other people of the age group would be interested in the gossip and come to her for the information.

The front page mock i have done. At the moment i have done the background back, because i am not sure what colour that i would want my background to be. I like the font of my title of my magazine it stands out.  I like the lay out of my magazine, i know were i would want everything to go on my font page. 

Content page

The content page that i have designed is what i would want in my magazine. Yet again the Background is not decided on that.  I like the font of the content, i would like to keep the font but not the colour because going back to my research, not many would want the colour pink. i like the layout of my content page, which i would want to keep. 

Article 

My article  back ground is not what i would want, i need to keep the article the same colour for it to stand out. Also i need to think about my picture so that it should stand out and blend it in. I also need to think of the content and what i should lay it out, at the moment, this how i would want the article to be laid out as. 

Reader profile

The reader of my magazine will be a 16-19 year old. she will be the girl within her age group which will know the latest news about her artist and the gossip, she will go and tell the other girls her age, and they would go to her and get the information from her because they would know that she has the information she has.

Photo shoot

At the photo shoot, I will be taking picture of one main model. On the front page I would want to have  female role model looking stunning and looking straight at the camera. Also  I would want the model to be a female, an attractive and a good role model to my audience. I would want the model look lovely.
i based my ideas on, Rihanna or Katey Perry which are both an icon in the music buisness. carrying out research i find out that many audience are attracted to these type of artist.

My model sarah will represent the two of my chosen artist looking lovely in a pink outfit with alot of accesories and looking fierce with a soft look.

This is my mood bored of the celebrity that inspire me to chose this type of music genre. As you can see, the music artist that i have chosen are sexy and well known to the audience i have targeted to sell my magazine to. To have this sort of genre and artist pictures in my magazine it will atract my audience to read more. I also put the title with different font to see how it will look on my front page. I used Dafont to help with the font for my title. 

The mood Bored i have designed is their to give an insight in what you would expect in my magazine. Also what type of music and artist my target audience would be interested in to reading it. I hope that they would be interested in the same genre which i am sure because of my questionnaire.

Amna, you are making good progress here. Please take care with spelling and typing here as even some of the blog titles have errors in them. Carry on with the planning. Next week you should be writing the first draft of the article and taking photos so please ensure that you book the studio and plan ou the shoot - costumes, props, model etc. See me if you have any problems.

Name for my Magazine

The name that i decided to name my magazine is 'Booty Blast.' This is because in my questionnaire i asked my target audience which names would you prefer and three chosen 'Shake it up' and five had chosen Booty Blast, so I'm going with Booty Blast. I am sure that this magazine would be perfect and that it will suite the audience that is targeted to. The name is perfect for my age-range because its not for a 12 year old but 16 year old. 

Technology

The technology that I will be using for my magazine is a camera to take the pictures for my magazine, i got to make sure that the picture is portrait to fit my front cover. Also i will be using the lighting technique high key and low key. The reason for high-key lighting to give the audience a clear view of who he artist is and to look bright on my magazine front page. I will use low-key lighting for my content page to bring a gentle suspense on the cover. The pictures will be taken in a studio, the model will be standing behind a white sheet which will give me a bright image of the model.

Using media theory to discuss target audience

The target audience for my music magazine are teenagers from the age 16-19. In my magazine their will be music, fashion and gossip about the artist because this will appeal to my target audince and my targeted gender, females. Even though my magazine is targeted to females i don't think this would affect the sales figure because their is alot of magazine targeted to males alone. I also thought about the socio-economic, and the target audience would either working or going to college and would be able to have thier own money or they be dependent on pocket money from their [parents this would not matter much because my magazine will be produced monthly. I don't think the race of the reader would affect my magazine because is race-free.

Music instition

The music instition that i would distribute to is IPC, because this instition produces over 60 iconic media brands. For magazine they reach up to two thirdsof women in the UK- for my magazine, this will be an ideal institution for my magazine because my target audience are females. They sell all sorts of magazine, different type of genres and its a good idea if i sell my magazine to them. Even though they only produce one music magazine NME, if i sell my magazine to them then it will fill their gap and gain more people reading my magazine. The magazine they publish has different ranges of prices, the highest ive seen is £4.50, this won't be an ideal price to start with my magazine a loxwer price would sell perfectly with my audience. 

I disagree with the EMAP because it does not produce many magazine compared to the IPC.

Analysis of download top 40

The top 40 is downloaded has showed me that people like different type of music, however majority of the song in the chart is RnB and Hip Hop. Researching the top 40 it clearly shows that the genre that i want to sell  is popular and alot of people tend to listen to it and my magazine will be a good hit.  

Questionaire

These questions will give me a brief idea in what I would should be doing to get my target audience to buy and read my magazine. I'll be going around with this questionnaire and ask 16-19 year olds to fill it in and get my results. 

The results of the questionnaire:

Q.2. their was eight agreeing yes and two saying no. 

Q.3. for male their was three, for female none and for both their was seven.

Q.4. nine people agreed with fashion and gossip and one disagreed. 

Q.5. No one agreed with the colour pink black, four said red and six said blue and three said other colours. 

Q.6. one agreed on the artist albums, three agreed on questions about the artist themselves and six said both. 

Q.7. nine said yeas and one said no.

Q.8. one agreed with the title 'no boys allowed,' four agreed with 'shake it up' and five agreed on 'booty blast,'. 

Q.9. four agreed with the prize £1.00-£2.00 and six agreed with the price £2.99-£3.00. 

Q.10. ten agreed on yes and none agreed with no. 

Q.11. age 16 were 3, age 18 was 5...and age 19 is 2.    

Doing a questionnaire has givin me a feedback in what my target audience wants. Asking them what they would like to see in a magazine ensures me that it will be a good magazine and wil sell to my target audience.

This research has provided informaton to show which type of music magazine genre sells the most, because I decided to do a magazine just for girls combined with fashion and gossip I blieve that my magazine will sell successfully. Its different compared to the other magazine and majority of the magazine I researched are targeted at male audience then females which my magazine will do.

Because my magazine will include fashion  also reserched circulation figures for fashion magazine.

Analysis of front cover (preliminary)

Convention of a music magazine

The first thing you notice in a music magazine is the front cover. A front cover of any music magazine have to be eye-catching and also have to be target to their targeted audience. The main conventions on a music magazine are usually a short memorable magazine title with large dominant icon, making it clear the title of the magazine. The colour of the title have to stand out because the colour plays a main part through out the magazine for example red is used for the main heading then also be used for the main article, which I will be doing in my magazine. I also realised that in every front page of a magazine is the price, it has to be a reasonable price if it I decide to publish ma magazine once a week or once a month. Further down the page, all music magazine will have either a solo artist or a band in the centre looking important as the main title of the magazine. The subject's face can be easily and clearly seen with eye contacts, also bright colour scheme with colourful clothing to stand out. I also realised in a music magazine that I researched is that the magazine have thumbnails of other important article which I believe is important because to give the target audience an insight of what they will be reading about or what they expect to find in my music magazine, and also large dominant full page image of one of the main articles in the magazine. The language technique has to be used to anchor the image which I believe is important. I also noticed that there is a teasing content of music which I will like to include in to my magazine and also a particular convention is competitions and free gift which I will do. Considering all these convention my front page will be just be like the best selling magazine but better.  


The next convention that I will be discussing is the content page. The page title is always at the top of the page with the date of the issue. Quotes from various articles are usually found on the content page. Also in the magazine haves a feature sections showing what will be showed in the magazine and on which page. The colour scheme have to be continuous like the background and the fonts all have to blend in. Images are important, images of artist both performing and on a set are mostly seen on a content page and images from various articles which also have various language techniques. For a music magazine content page these conventions are ideal for ma magazine.


The convention for a music magazine article is displayed on a two A4 paper and on the right hand side of the article there is always a name of the artist in large, clear fonts for a big impact among the other articles. Also I realised that on the two pages there is always a continuous colour scheme used. There is always an introduction to the article and then the article itself which is always written in columns and clear font. I realised that there are often contact details, to get in touch with the editor and highlighted quote from the article which I think is quite Interesting because these quotes can be ideal for the targets audience to read more. On the left side of the page you usually see the page title at the top left of the page indicating what the page on the right contains. Some of the text drag over the page which is funky, cool and I like to used that in my magazine, and also contains extra information columns which is a neat convention to feed the audience. many pictures of the artist all of the pages to making it look slick. Another convention that caught my eyes again is that some text are highlighted with large bold colourful font so the audience will have to read it. 


All these convention on a music magazine will make my magazine just as good as the other, but mine will have different ideas of music and how I will sell my magazine.

Preliminary task

This is my research draft. An example of a college magazine advertising for teenagers. in here i had to cut out the main model and choose the background to blend i with the heading and tag-lines and to make sure that the heading and the main model of the student stand out.


I learnt that in a magazine the tag lines are not supposed to be crossing the model and the font has to be clear so the audience would be able to read it. The model is quite low and not spread out which won't be able to attract the target audience by doing this. Also the issue will not be as big as I have done and the barcode is to big, not usually this big on a magazine cover. I also did not put the price on this magazine cover whereas there is always a price tag on every magazine you purchased so that is something I would have to keep in mind. I also learnt that i should used more colours that stand out and looks eye-catching rather then using black.To do my actual magazine i will ahave to keep in mind all the mistakes that i have done in my preliminary task so that my magazine will be perfect and eye-catching. 


The content page that i have sketched has the three columns rule a with a sub heading. Including  big picture to grab the audience attention to read that page and also to give an insight in what they will fine in the magazine, i will lie to include it in ma magazine.   Also the colours that i used are bright, like the background i used bright colours so the text and picture will stand out.

initails ideas:

My initail ideas is creating a music magazine for my targeted audience which are teenagers, specificly females.
I decided to target this paticular audience because to show them that how music magazine are not only for male teenagers, theirs very few that are targeted just for female audience. The genre for my magaizne is RnB because i believe that my targeted audience would enjoy reading a magaize with their RnB star's and have their point of veiw and also interviews the RnB stars can express themselves to the fans, their chance to let their fans know a bit bout them. The age group that i would like to target are 15-19 years old, beacuse i believe they would be intrested in the magazine and to read about their Rnb stars. 
My magazine would have a main heading, which will be eye catching and bold to catch my target audience attention also to increase the attention a picture of a favrioute RnB star posing in the latest clothes and acessories, the model could be either male or female. Also on my front cover there would be a qoute from the chosen celebrity, interview, i also notice that most magazine have taglines and pictures of other music artist, and so my magazne will have a bit of gossip about the other target celebrities. The colours of my magazine have to bright and eye-catching but i don't it to be to girly so have to avoid using shockin pink, because i dont want my magazine to look like its design 4 children.
Also i have to design a content page giving the audience in what to find in my magazine also two or three (max) pictures of celebrities and interviews also which music is in and what is number 1.
